Nithya Joseph, Govindan Venkatasubramanian, Isabelle Guérin, and Sébastien Michiels have published an article in The Wire, entitled “How Microfinance and Data Capture Pushed Tamil Nadu’s Most Disadvantaged Into Debt Distress”.

This article highlights how microfinance loans, meant to empower women, have instead deepened debt distress among marginalized communities in rural Tamil Nadu, particularly Adi Dravidar, Arundatiyar, and Dalit Christian groups.
