🎥 International and French Premieres of “One Side of the Road”, directed by Jalil Nordman
For the first time in France, the film One Side of the Road will be screened.
The screening will take place on Saturday 28 September 2024 at Le Trianon cinema in Romainville.
One Side of the Road describes the daily lives of four Dalits from a small village in Tamil Nadu as they struggle to survive: over-indebtedness, poor working conditions in the sugar cane fields and brick factories, domestic and social violence, discrimination and political unrest. Aimed at a general public, this documentary was shot as part of a socio-economic research project using an ethnographic approach. It features portraits of four people who tell the story of their lives during three extraordinary years marked by the international COVID pandemic and its harsh economic and social consequences in rural India. Fragile lives on one side of the road, the latter is a partition of territory that emancipates, separates and brings together all at once. The road is both a gateway to a wider world, to nearby industrial towns, a means of possible emancipation for some, but it is also synonymous with the subjugation of others through the spatial segregation of castes in these rural areas.
The film has recently received the Best Documentary Award at the India International Film Festival of Boston (13-15 September 2024) and is in the official selection ofthe 26th Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival 2024 (6-10 December 2024).
